About Whocan (and the Kai–Paul duo)

Two independent co-founders. No VC. Built because we needed it ourselves.

Whocan started with a different problem. While running scrum teams at Swiss Re in Zurich, we kept reaching for a quick story-point estimation tool — and ended up building one. We put it online as scrumpoker.app, and it just worked. That gave us the confidence to tackle the next thing.

The next thing was Whocan. Kai had been organizing school BBQs as a parent-council VP, and trying to plan his 40th birthday with patchwork spreadsheets. Doodle did scheduling but not RSVPs. SignUpGenius did sign-ups but with an account hurdle for every guest. Google Forms did everything-you-build-yourself. Nothing combined invitations + RSVPs + potluck lists in one shareable link.

So we built Whocan. Free, no signup, no ads. Nine use-case templates. Six languages. Built in our spare hours with Angular, Astro, and Firebase — no VC, no scaling pressure, just the tool we wanted to use ourselves. If you find a missing piece, let us know. The story of how we ended up here was featured in Tages-Anzeiger and SonntagsZeitung in 2025.

Meet the founders

Kai Petersen and Paul Cornec, founders of Whocan

Kai Petersen

Co-Founder · Lead Development

Kai Petersen is a software developer based in Küsnacht near Zurich. He studied philosophy and mathematics at the University of Freiburg and has spent 28 years building software — including 13 years at Swiss Re as a project manager, software architect, and scrum master. He went independent in 2022 to focus on his own products. Whocan grew out of his own frustration organizing school BBQs and planning his 40th birthday with patchwork spreadsheets. The founding story was featured in Tages-Anzeiger and SonntagsZeitung in 2025.

Paul Cornec

Co-Founder

Paul Cornec is the co-founder of Whocan and scrumpoker.app. He and Kai built their first tool — a story-point estimation app — out of their shared scrum practice, then created Whocan together. Outside the products, he works in solution engineering and customer advisory.
